HANCHIKU HOUSE vol.4
"Hanchiku of Hasuike"
A small-scale, energy-efficient house was built on a residential development from the 1970s.
The Sumizome Hanchiku technique used is an upcycled rammed earth method, similar to the one adopted in the Zentsuji Temple’s Traffic Safety Prayer Hall.
The house was designed with an image of using the shadowed space beneath a wooden beam set on a rammed earth wall.
- The house is compact, allowing the residents to enjoy farming on the remaining land.
- There are no hallways; the layout consists of a spacious south-facing main room with the bathroom and other facilities attached.
- A home for a mother and daughter to live together while always feeling each other's presence.
- Radiant heating and cooling systems are utilized.
